Chosen Action 4

The adapted and innovative use of new technologies to the benefit of the participants, the users and the general public

Description of the activity: Geophysical survey technology and hydrobiological datalogging will be adapted to the needs of the project. Monitoring methods will be refined during the project so that they can be used systemically to monitor the sites. Different methods of documentation and producing images for visualising the sites will be tested and adapted.

Objectives: The aim is to refine the technology and methods for non-intrusive survey and systematic monitoring of the wreck sites, to find effective ways for visualising the wrecks by using scientifically gathered information, and to disseminate information to the general public.

The target group: The participants of the project, professionals of underwater archaeology, cultural operators and environmental studies.

An indicative timetable: Throughout the project (1 July 2001 - 30 June 2004).

The expected results: Problems and solutions for use of i.e. technologies and methods will be discussed in the project meetings, seminars and written articles. Datalogging parameters for the environmental variables will be defined and results evaluated during the project.
